Rodolphe Jaar, ressortissant haïtiano-chilien, a plaidé coupable vendredi à Miami de «soutien matériel» au commando qui avait assassiné le président haïtien Jovenel Moïse dans sa résidence en 2021, selon des documents judiciaires.
L’homme de 50 ans a reconnu avoir fourni un «soutien matériel et des ressources» en sachant que cela servirait à séquestrer et tuer le dirigeant de ce pays pauvre des Caraïbes, selon son plaider-coupable. Il est le premier à reconnaître sa culpabilité parmi les 11 individus détenus aux États-Unis et accusés d’avoir planifié l’assassinat depuis Miami, en Floride.
Jovenel Moïse avait été tué en juillet 2021 par un commando de mercenaires colombiens dans sa résidence privée de Port-au-Prince sans que ses gardes du corps n’interviennent. Selon l’accusation, Rodolphe Jaar avait logé et armé les membres du commando.
Il avait été présenté en janvier 2022 devant un tribunal de Miami, après son arrestation en République dominicaine. Le procureur de Floride Markenzy Lapointe avait annoncé, lors d’une conférence de presse à Miami le 15 février, l’arrestation de quatre autres suspects, dont le Vénézuélien Antonio Intriago et le Colombien Arcangel Pretel Ortiz.
L’enquête américaine a révélé que ces deux hommes, à la tête de la société de sécurité CTU à Miami, avaient prévu de séquestrer Jovenel Moïse pour le remplacer par un Américano-Haïtien, Christian Sanon.
